Did I do the right thing?

I knew this guy through a friend. I always talk to him in facebook. Then in facebook, he told me that he likes me. And now he asked my friend's ex (which my friend is very disappointed of). I don't know what happened but I don't really like the guy. Just today, I talked to him. I said hey. He said hey babe. Then I was just like "don't call me babe 'cuz youre going out with someone now.".(I thought he calls me babe cuz he's flirting with me) After that he got pissed off and said "for *** sake i call everyone babe. Dont get shity about it". I said "I'm just being careful sorry" then he said he gtg. so i said bye. Is it right that I'm just being careful about those stuff?
